Evaluate 3 – Self Reflection

This is one of my last requirements of my EOTC course.  I am supposed to reflect on my individual teaching abilities.  I am a little lost on what to suppose to be included here but here it goes.  I have been using online components in my class for several years.  It first it was a website I created for student to view and answer questions.

Next I had the student begin to email their assignment in. In order to keep these assignments organized the student had to label both their email and the assignment a specific way.  Which was class period, last name, first name and assignment number.  It was easy to search through my email and find all the assignments that had been turned in correctly.

The next step was to use Angel LMS, which I believe now is part of Blackboard.  I took a class on online learning as part of my EdS program.  The program required me to design a shell and lesson inside Blackboard.  I learned a lot in the process.  Not too long after this I started training with GAVS.  At the time I had a toddler and had to stop after the first semester.

After finishing my EdS I begin ETMOOC.  Part of the class was starting this blog.  The summer after #ETMOOC I started my first online teaching job teaching for the Impact Academy part time.  I was hoping for a full time job but.  To my surprise Impact was more blended learning then online.

I started an instructional  web series on how to use your iOS device. I give explanations of how to do thing in 60 seconds or less.  The name of the series is Tap That iOS.

Finally I have spent the last 3 years, teaching film and video production.  I discovered Google Classroom early on and have not looked back since.  This last year I started participating in several education chats on Twitter, earned my Apple Teacher Certification and am Google Ninja trained.

I hope you enjoyed this blog.

Evaluate Reflection

In my last blog for my EOTC class I had to link my work to the standards

Standard D:

I was able to demonstrate that in this  blog.  I know the an online instructor should be able to cite to specific reason for the feedback.  The instructor should give way to improve even the student has performed highly.

Standard G:

I was able to demonstrate how date could be pulled to give feedback on assessments.  I showed an example of an exam of the data that the I was able to pull from the test.

Standard H:

For this standards I an assignment based  on the standards for the class.

Standard I:

For this standard I was able to use data collected and apply it to personalized learning.

What strategies will you take away from the Evaluate module and apply to your teaching?  What lessons were most beneficial for you?

I learned the most from the lessons on personalized learning.  I look forward to doing this in the fall.  Other things that I will be spending time on is feedback. This has been a challenging but interesting course.

Please subscribe to my blog for more on film and video technology in the classroom.

Evaluate 3 – Personalized Teaching and Learning

The following is a blog for my EOTC course.  I am interested in this because I will be working with personalized learning next year.  I created the following  data for the project.  I had a similar data in my digital photography class that I was teaching.

For my class, the students had to take photos and turn those assignments in for a grade. If you look only 2 of the students did not spend several minutes everyday online for this class.  I would need to look to see if these 2 students were turning in assignment.  If they were not I would suggest they spend more time online.  If there were students who were putting in a lot of time but not turning in assignments, I would recommend remediation. One thing I notice about my classes is you could download the assignment and print it out.  Then complete it and upload it when you were done.  This is what I would be hoping for the last 2 students.  I am not really concerned with the amount of time they put in online as long as they were doing the work offline.

I hope you have enjoyed this blog.

Evaluate 2 – Competencies

The following is a blog for my EOTC course.  I will be working with the following standard to create a competency:

AAVTC-AVTFI-4 Demonstrate proper set-up and use of basic production equipment.

4.1 Demonstrate steps necessary to set-up, turn on, and operate equipment according to instructor’s directions.

For this assignment the student would unpack the camera and build it.  Then they would attach all of the accessories.  Then they would put the camera on a tripod.  After setting the camera they would attach a lens and adjust to an object 15 feet away was in focus.

The student would need to be able to do all of the steps.  They could either put it together themselves or they could look at camera that had been set up improperly and correct the mistakes.  For differentiation they could create a work product that could be used to put the camera together.

I wasn’t sure how to do this but I think this is one of the ways the assignment could be done.  I hope you enjoyed the blog.

Evaluate 2 – Data Driven Instruction & Analysis

The blog is for my EOTC course.  Based on my limited ability to interprete the data in this unit, it appear the top 4 students are making satisfactory progress and the bottom 4 are not making progress.  The students in the middle need a lot of encouragement so that they stay involves in the class.  So what I contact the student after their 1st missing assignment to see if they were having in trouble in the course.  After the 2nd missing assignment I would start to contact other stakeholders to get them involved.  One of the things I did to keep my students involved in my online courses was to push all my assignments up to the front of the class.  I wanted to give my students a chance to finish their work early.  If a student fell behind on my schedule, they would still have a chance to finish the course on time.  I liked challenging them to this. If you can see the data you might see patterns in student behavior and work with them.  Some students may need adjusting while other may not.

I hope you enjoyed it. Please subscribe.

Evaluate 1 – Summative Assessments

This is a blog for my EOTC class.  In this blog , I am going to show examples of data from my assessments for one of my tests.  I was using Google forms to give my tests.  It provides a fair amount of data.  One option is to export the data to Google Sheets.  If the instructor know the right formulas, they could probably extract more data using a spreadsheet.

Here is the test.

Here is the data that I can get from the test.

data screen shot

After giving the test, I would usually display the data to the class.  This was a final and some students were exempt and the senior had a different test so only 12 students took this.  On a normal test the students can see if they had the answer correct and compare that to how many got the answer correct.  On question #36 only half the class got the answer correct.  So this is a concept that I would usually go back over.  If you consider the seniors and the exempt students, I would have probably had better results.
